We celebrated Chinese New Year this week in Junior Infants as part of our Aistear theme. The three groups here included ‘Role Play’ in the Chinese restaurant, making lanterns at the ‘Art n Craft’ station and designing a Chinese city using lego at the ‘Construction’ station.
In addition, we read a story about ‘Dragons in the City’ which is where we learned about the 12 animals on the Chinese Zodiac calendar!
We did lots of fine motor activities throughout the week also. These included using tweezers and chopsticks to lift the noodles and rice onto the plate.
Finally, in our art class we made dragons with silhouettes using sponges and paint
On Thursday, we celebrated Chinese New Year by sampling some Chinese cuisine. The boys were very excited to open the fortune cookies to read the special message inside! A huge thank you to the parents who volunteered and took the time to bake food, it went down a treat and the boys were thrilled! A lovely day to mark Chinese New Year!
