Last week's Aistear theme in Junior Infants was based on 'The Opticians'. Firstly, we had a short discussion as to what the role of an optician is and why we might visit here. The boys rotated stations every afternoon where they worked on Role Play, Small World and Construction, Playdoh and Junk Art. The role play in 'The Opticians' was a firm favourite with the children and they really enjoyed taking turns to be a customer, receptionist and dressing up as the optician. Customers came into the optician looking for eye tests, prescription sunglasses and contact lenses! One set of glasses even created unique 3D images. Another station invited the boys to get creative using playdoh and pipe cleaners to make glasses, inviting the children to use their imagination when designing! The Construction station encouraged the children to get to work building optician offices using jenga blocks, bricks and lego figures. Great enjoyment!
