6th Class Trip to Carlingford

by JJ Ruane

I woke up at 6:47 on a Thursday morning to go to Carlingford. I ran downstairs as fast as lightning after putting on my clothes. I ate my breakfast and said hello to my dog and double checked my bag to see if I had everything, which I did. When I was waiting for my ride to arrive I went to brush my teeth. My friend Cian arrived and we went in the car and headed for school. We arrived just in time for the bus. We left pod by pod into the bus. My pod got the back of the bus. We sang a bunch of songs and chanted a bunch of chants. It was still early so I took a nap. I woke up more than halfway there so I did rock, paper, scissors and best out of ten with everyone. At 9:20 we got off the bus at Carlingford.

We brought our bags to a shed to keep them safe. Then we ran over to get our harnesses on. The first set of boys got their gear on and got on the high ropes. I finally got ready for the high ropes and decided to do the hardest one. It was really fun. Halfway through the course one of my friends Tim felt sick and vomited off the side of the zipline. He then got off the course early. Two other of my friends and I were a good bit behind the rest of the group. So we had to catch up. At around 2:00 I finished the course with the rest of the guys. We then went to eat as we were all starving. We had chicken nuggets and chips. I would give them a 9/10 as the salt was lumpy.

We got our bags from the shed and got in a mini bus to go to the kayaking place where we were doing our second activity. We got wetsuits, helmets and life jackets. We went into a changing room and got changed. The instructor gave us a safety briefing and then we got into the water with the kayaks. We started rowing over to a pontoon and half way there my back started killing me from rowing for so long. I made it to the pontoon. We then started jumping off. After 10 minutes of doing that we got back into the kayaks and rowed to the shore. The instructor told us we were going to see a waterfall. So we followed him into a tunnel and then one by one we saw it. He told us we could put our heads under it so we did. Everyone got a turn so we went back. We finally got back and took our wetsuits off. I got into my clothes and got onto the bus to go home.

The bus ride was practically the same. We got back at 6:30. We were a half an hour early so we had a game of rugby on the front pitch. My friend's Mom came to pick us up. I got home at 7:02 and I was exhausted. I had a great day.
