Form 3 St Brigid's Crosses

Making St Brigid’s Crosses

This week in Form 3 we celebrated Lá Fhéile Bríde. We learned all about the life and times of St Brigid and the traditions associated with celebrating the feast day on the 1st of February. We made St Brigid’s crosses from rushes. It was a bit tricky at first but we got the hang of of it eventually!. The crosses are traditionally hung above windows and doorways to protect the home from fire and to ward off evil and harm. The boys enjoyed listening to the story of St Brigid’s Cloak and how she came to secure the land from the King of Leinster and went on to build her church in Kildare. It was lovely to hear the boys recounting the story- they knew it so well.
