Form 2 have been learning about Gráinne Mhaol, a famous Irish pirate queen. They discovered that she lived over 400 years ago and was a powerful leader. The class learned how she sailed the west coast of Ireland with her fleet. They explored how she protected her land and people during difficult times. Form 2 also discussed the conflicts between Irish clans and England. They were especially interested in her meeting with Queen Elizabeth I. Gráinne asked the Queen to release her captured soldiers. As part of the lesson, Form 2 wrote letters pretending to be Gráinne. In their letters, they politely asked for the soldiers to be freed. This activity helped Form 2 learn both history and letter writing skills.
