Learning the sound 'P' in Junior Infants

Junior Infants learned all about the sound 'p' this week. They engaged in lots of fun activities learning this new letter sound!

The boys focused on developing their fine motor skills through a range of activities as well as learning the 'p' sound through a range of interactive activities also. The first fine motor activity was with pipe cleaners and pencils on the tuff tray. The second activity involved using the tweezers to lift the pictures out of the rainbow rice- placing the sounds starting with 'p' in the panda's mouth. The third activity involved placing the pom-poms into the ice cube tray whilst working against the one minute timer as an additional challenge and making it more enjoyable!

Each group worked on a different activity every day- including using pasta to make the outline of the letter 'p' and then using a marker to trace the letter in the plastic pocket. We listened to the story 'Pip the Panda' which really emphasised the 'p' sound with pictures throughout the story. The boys engaged very well with all tasks. The boys did tracing of the letter 'p' with their finger on the a sandpaper surface, the desk surface, in the air and on their partners back, whilst remembering to say the rhyme learned when completing the letter formation.
