One of our November Aistear themes was 'The Dentist'. Junior Infants really enjoyed engaging in all the activities throughout the week and rotating to a new station each day. There was a role play station where children went into different roles acting out various scenarios. One boy took the role of the dentist, another was a dental assistant with the tray of equipment and then some boys were patients. The boys used turn taking here to share the roles. Another station worked on threading the teeth with a lace and also had a look at a concrete model of the teeth fitting braces and retainers. There was a creative station where the boys used tweezers to place the mini marshmallows on the outline of the teeth, also targeting fine motor skills. The boys learned the steps involved in brushing their teeth and used picture cards to sequence. The boys learned about the important job a dentist has and how we can best take care of our teeth through brushing them and also making healthy food choices.
