Children's Choir
St. Mary's College Junior School has two children's choirs - The Senior Choir and The Training Choir. Under the baton of our music teacher Ms. Mary Walsh, our choirs engage in public performances and numerous masses including Confirmation and Communion.
There is a varied repertoire of unison to three part songs by classical composers, folksong from around the world, musicals, popular and religious settings.
Rehearsals take place before school in the School Chapel. The choirs begin each rehearsal with fun warmups, including canons and music is learned by rote with sheet music provided to develop sight reading skills taught in class.
Opportunities for singing both solo and duet in public performances are provided regularly with additional workshops on musical engagement and vocal technique.
The emphasis is on fun in the hopes that each singer develops a lifelong love for choral singing.
Parents' Choir
St Mary’s College Choral Society, fondly known as the Parent’s Choir meets in the Senior School every Wednesday evening from 7.30-9.30pm.
We sing at some of the school masses/fundraisers/parents social evenings etc. and at this time of the year, as well as some carol singing for charity…
We love to have a go at new things, from a summertime flashmob in Dartmouth Square, where we sang the Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah, along with several other choirs from around Dublin…to a live ad for WiMax, in the snow this time last year, from the arctic Dublin Docklands..(much to the mortification of our sons, it’s now up on YouTube!!)
If you think that this is for you, why not come along to a couple of rehearsals and see what you think…no pressure of course but be aware, once you start, it’s very difficult to stop!
