St. Mary’s were delighted to introduce golf to the primary school in 2007. From 2nd to 6th class, children have an opportunity to participate in golf lessons in the first term and the third term. 4th to 6th class play in 9 hole competitions on Friday after school in the Stepaside Golf Centre & Driving Range and Jamestown Pitch and Putt. Each year a 5th class team play in an AIJS competition. The top 4 boys from the 6th class Friday competitions represent the school in the Castle trophy which is played in Castle Golf Club.

Each year the boys who participated in the 6th Class Friday golf, play a 9 hole team event in the Grange Golf Club. Each year at this event, the top golfer of the year is presented with the Jody Fanagan trophy which was presented by Jody Fanagan, past pupil and Walker Cup player.

The year’s golf is rounded off with the parent and child competition which is played in Milltown Golf Club on Holy Thursday. Past pupil, Dara Lernihan kindly presented a trophy which been going since 2011 and is presented to the winning team at the dinner.
