Class Swimming Lessons
As part of the P.E Curriculum in St. Mary's College Junior School, all classes from Junior Infants to Form 6 attend swimming lessons in Swan Leisure Centre for a 6-week block. Swimming takes place on a Tuesday morning during school time. The boys are accompanied to the swimming pool by Mr. Sloan and their class teachers. The boys are taught by qualified swim coaches in Swan Leisure. Based on ability, the boys are put into groups and are coached to improve their skills.
Boys must bring in a towel, goggles, hat and swimming togs to partake in classes.
St. Mary's Swim Team
The St. Mary's Swim Team train on Wednesday mornings from 7.30am - 8.15am in Swan Leisure Swimming Pool. Boys meet Mr. Sloan at the pool at 7.15am. Boys bring their school bags to the pool and Mr. Sloan transports all school bags to school in time for class.
The St. Mary's Swim Team was introduced to provide a facility for pupils who are competent swimmers and who want to improve their fitness and skills. Sessions focus on stroke technique, improving stamina and cardiovascular fitness. The St. Mary's Swim Team is open to swimmers from Form 2 - Form 6 who are comfortable in the water and can swim all four strokes competently. Boys must have a genuine interest in swimming and must be punctual and responsible.
The boys enter many swimming galas around Dublin and Leinster throughout the year.
